In Spain, the moon has many names.  But when she is shrouded by mist, shining through the mysterious haze, she is known as the “Luna Mora” – the Moorish Moon.

Let´s share the journey through the deep emotions that Andalusian flamenco stirs within us, warm at heart and spiced with a mystic Arabic touch.  This is a performance filled with passion – Sometimes deep and dark, sometimes joyful and clear… as is the Luna Mora!

Annette Morcos “La Mora” is pleased to produce “Luna Mora,” her fifth large-scale production featuring incredible Flamenco artists from Spain. Annette has fiercely pursued her passion for flamenco by studying under an extensive list of flamencos across Spain and is Calgary’s premier flamenco performer and instructor.  Together with Luna Fabiola  “Luna”, they will perform the creation of “Luna Mora” and share the beauty and passion of flamenco dance.  Luna Fabiola is a sought after dancer, instructor and choreographer from Seville, Spain.  She combines the most traditional elements of the Sevillian School of dance with an innate knowledge of structure and form.  Luna has studied with a number of recognized Flamenco masters such as Jose, Israel and Pastora Galvan, Manolo Marin, Milagros Menjibar and Beatriz Martin.

Accompanied by the flamenco guitar of Juan Torres, “Luna Mora” will be a treat for both the eyes and ears.  Juan was born in Moron de la Frontera, Spain.  At the age of 6 he began to study guitar with Manuel Morilla and later became a student of Paco Delgado.  Ten years ago, Juan began to investigate the guitar as accompaniment for dance and began a new facet of his art.  He is the official guitarist for the Federación de Peñas Flamencas Sevillanas, accompanying many great artists such as Caqui Montes, Marques el Zapatero and Manuel Machuca.  Jesus Floreswill provide the cante (song) for “Luna Mora”.  Born in one of the “cradles” of Flamenco, Moron de la Frontera, to gypsy parents, Jesus Flores began singing at a very young age.  He has developed a voice characterized by the freshness of his youth, but with a depth attributed to seasoned singers.  Noted for his dominion of rhythm, he has dedicated himself to the accompaniment of the dance.  He has accompanied artists Juana Amaya, Juan de Juan, Ana la Marquesita, Oscar de los Reyes and Alfonso Losa to name a few.

Luna Mora is a single performance on April 2, 2011 at the University Theatre (located at 2500 University Drive NW on the university of Calgary Campus) at 8:00pm.

Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the MS Society of Calgary.   Tickets are available through FlamencoCalgary at www.flamencocalgary.comor Pumphouse Theatre Box Office at 403-263-0079 or www.pumphousetheatres.ca
